Spicy Pabda(pohala)Fish Fry

is one of the popular fish recipes that most of us are fond of. Comes in a deliciously coated spicy batter, crispy and brown outer coating with a succulent and delicious piece inside. Fish is cooked in various ways that include grilled, broiled and baked which are considered to be the good choices when it comes to preparing fish. While healthier, none of these preparations beats a good batter-dipped fried fish.

1.Pabda or Pohala fish – 2 
2.Mustard seeds – 2 tbsp.
3.Tomato – 1 (chopped)
4.Garlic cloves – 2
5.Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp. 
6.Chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.
7.Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp. 
8.Kalonji (nigella seeds) – 1/4 tsp.
9.Salt to taste.
10.Mustard oil – 5 tbsp. 
11.Chopped coriander leaves – 2 tbsp.
12.Green chilly (slit) – 2 
Method –
1.Wash the fish and marinate with 1/4 tsp. of salt and a pinch of turmeric powder, keep aside until use. Adding 1/4 cup of water grind mustard seeds and garlic into a paste. Transfer it to a bowl. Add chilly-cumin-turmeric powder and 1/2 cup of water.Keep the masala mix aside.
2.Heat oil in a frying pan. Fry the fish till light brown on both sides. Remove from heat,keep aside. In the remaining oil add kalonji, stir fry for few seconds. Add tomato. saute for 2-3 minutes. Add the masala mix,saute until the raw smell of the masalas goes off. Add 1 cup of water and salt, let it bring to boil. Add the fried fish and cook on medium flame until there is no liquid left.
